Stage 1B is on the east end of the project, at approximately MP 45–46.5, and includes the Quartz Creek intersection as well as the intersection of the existing and proposed Sterling Highway (approximately MP 47). Stage 1B includes realignment of the highway and connection to the old Sterling Highway. Construction will include excavation, rock blasting, a pedestrian undercrossing (Coyote Notch), retaining walls, drainage, guardrail, pavement, and signage and striping. Excess material will be transported to Stage 3.
Blasting activities for the 2026 season resumed in April, with crews returning to the project site in the last week of March 2026.
During April and May, major work will include constructing detours and installing utility systems along the new alignment segment (Sterling Hwy MP 45-47).
Construction crews will be working Monday through Saturday through mid-May, depending on workload and weather conditions. Residents may experience traffic delays, and periodic disruptions during this time. We appreciate your patience and cooperation as this work progresses.
